When asked why he took the name "Francis"  the new pope answered: "[St. Francis was] the man of the poor. The man of peace. The man who loved and cared for creation - and in this moment we don't have such a great relationship with the creator. The man who gives us this spirit of peace, the poor man who wanted a poor church..." Augustine Thompson in his recent book, "Francis of Assisi: A New Biography" writes in the introduction what St. Francis has taught him. "[H]e taught me that the love of God is something that remakes the soul, and doing good for others follows from this..." May the "new" Francis teach us as well.
