An amazing transformation takes place for a pastoral minister when he or she goes from "visiting the sick" to being the "visitee."
I am in the midst of the transformation. Bacterial pneumonia and dehydration did its nasty work this past week. Learning to be a "patient" patient has not been easy. But I am learning!
My thoughts have been of gratitude - the excellent and professional care at the hospital, the kindness and compassion of friends and the support of a wonderful parish community.
While I was in the hospital, my medical doctor, a teacher of scripture and good friend, stopped by to check me out. He is an unusual physician. Before leaving, he touched my head and prayed a beautiful prayer for healing. He concluded his prayer asking God to help me learn from this experience.
I am sure the next several days will provide me with lots of opportunities.... I pray that I will be attentive to the Message.
