The Cathedral Community Ministry of Consolation

"Blessed are they who mourn for they shall be comforted."

Our mission is to create within the Cathedral Community a culture of compassion and caring where individual losses are acknowledged and recognized, ongoing support is offered to the bereaved, and opportunities for healing are offered through prayer and ritual.

The Cathedral Community Bereavement Group meets twice monthly on the 2nd and 4th Sundays, 10:30 a.m. to noon, in the Sacred Heart Cathedral narthex meeting room.  The group is open to anyone grieving a loss and is conducted by a trained facilitator.

Ministers of Consolation are members of The Cathedral Community who feel called by God to reach out in a special way to those who experience loss, especially through death, and to offer comfort to those who mourn.  They assist with funerals, call the newly bereaved, make home visits, and organize special programs and ceremonies. Ministers participate in ongoing learning opportunities to enhance their understanding of grief and to improve their skills in offering support.
