Joseph's Attic was created as a response to the needs we were hearing at Joseph's Place. The impetus for this was two-fold. First, we have a large number of refugees in our community. The transition to a new country can be extremely challenging and many refugees arrive with next to nothing. As they adjust and families grew, we have found that finding affordable furniture is a major struggle for many families. Secondly, a few years back a wave of bed bugs moved through our area and a large number of our guests were left without any sort of furniture. Many were sleeping on the floor with all their belongings in bags or just piled on floors.
Joseph's Attic goal is to make sure that families have the basic comforts of home and that usable furniture does not go to waste.
This is how it works:
- We act as a go between to ensure that unwanted furniture in good condition goes to a good home.
- We accept donations of non-upholstered furniture.
- Those in our neighborhood that are in need of additional furniture come to Joseph’s Attic and pick out the furniture they need.
- If needed, we have volunteers who can pick up donations and drop off furniture to their new home.
